When I explain the benefits of consuming protein at breakfast (basically a fast track to fat loss), I often get looks of despair as time pressed clients conjure up images of throwing a steak in the pan, or slapping a salmon fillet under the grill for breakfast.

While that would certainly deliver the protein hit, I don’t know too many people who could a) stomach something like that first thing in the morning b) get up early enough to make the necessary cooking arrangements.

So, here’s what I had for breakfast this morning. You’ll notice it’s got protein, good fats and a veggie component, plus it’s pretty low on calories and carbs. All good stuff if you’re trying to lose a little excess weight while maintaining your toned muscles.

Nutty Chocolate Supershake

1 cup of Rice milk
a few Ice cubes
1 ripe banana
1 tbsp oats
1 tbsp peanut butter
1.5 scoops protein powder
1 Tsp greens powder
1 Tsp coco powder
1 small handful of spinach (seriously – you won’t even know it’s there)

*If you’re into dairy products then you can add a tablespoon of natural yogurt or cottage cheese to make it a little creamier

Instructions: really? Ok, just put all the ingredients in a blender & blend for a minute or so!

I like to pour it into a bottle to take with me to work – but you could get it in a glass and drink it at home too. One of my clients, Liz  recommends making a large batch and keeping it in the fridge for a day or two if you need to save yourelf even more time.
